the summer of reality

so i decided to have a lazy sunday afternoon and watch the hours of tv that have accumulated on my TIVO. after going through i realized the only shows on the air lately are reality shows. i've accepted that the reality show is the new wave of tv and i love it but it's getting to be a bit ridiculous, it seems like they will give anyone a show. some of these shows i love, some i can tolerate and others i just don't understand.

i could go on and on but here are just a few of the most recent shows to enter the reality craze:

date my ex: jo and slade is the newest summer reality show from bravo. it's the story of jo and slade from real housewives of the oc, they are no longer dating and he is helping her find her next great love. there's only been one episode so maybe i should give it another chance, but i don't understand why this show was made. first of all, the only good thing about jo and slade is that his name is slade smiley (best reality name ever!). other then that they are both whiny and annoying. they were so wrong for each other during the real housewives that's it's hard to imagine how they have even remained friends. everything about this show seems like pathetic attempt to get them back together so they can have yet another spin off show to extend their 15 minutes.

ashley paige: bikini or bust follows bikini designer/grassroots animal rescuer around in her quest to build her business. this is a show i can tolerate; i might even like it if ashley would stop wearing pigtails and acting helpless when it comes to business matters! she's supposed to be trying to make it in the fashion world. people in the fashion world are mean! they aren't going to take some girl in pigtails seriously. it's obvious that she's not totally helpless when it comes to business, she was able to build a brand of high end knit bikinis that celebs seem to enjoy. it would be more interesting and believable to watch her try and get a licencing deal or something. instead we watch her struggle to pay rent. ashley's mother is pretty funny, she's the narrator and her southern accent somehow makes the show more tolerable.

i figured i would hate tori and dean, home sweet hollywood, but i must admit i like it. tori spelling is really quite endearing. she's incredibly insecure, totally ocd and a huge worry wart, but in a cute way. she seems way more down to earth then i thought she'd be. now her poor husband on the other hand is a bit of a mess, he doesn't have many redeemable qualities but it is funny to see how tori is the boss of the household. i do think that dean is being genuine but he's even lower on the d list then kathy griffen and i think it's hard for him. their baby is just adorable so he makes up for dean's shortcomings.

finally we come to pam girl on the loose and while this show isn't even on yet i already can't stand it! i know i might eat my words later, it happens often with these damn reality shows but i really think this time i'll be right. i just don't understand why in the world does e! think we need to see any more of pamela anderson?? what is she possibly going to be doing that will fill up 25 minutes of airtime?? i saw a preview the other day and it looked like tommy lee was going to be on it as well! i feel very strongly that they need to stay away from each other and tv cameras; we've seen too much of them in the past.
